About

Meet Dr. Sharon Shrum, a proud lifelong resident of the Mountain State. Her life in West Virginia is rich and full, shared on a charming small farm with her husband, son, a bustling flock of twenty-three chickens, and her loyal canine and feline companions. Sharon’s family extends beyond the farm to include two adult daughters and four adored grandchildren. Her dedication shines brightly when she speaks about the profound impact of education and support on children’s lives. In her downtime, you’ll likely find her tending her garden, where she grows food for her family, friends, and local homeless shelters. You might also find her offering a safe haven to stray cats, working on creative building projects with her husband, expressing her creativity through sewing, or simply enjoying precious moments with her family.
Drawing from her personal experience as a first-generation, non-traditional college student, Dr. Shrum eloquently states, “I know firsthand how empowering education can be. It’s the first seed that was planted to help me grow the beautiful life that I have today, and I want to spend the rest of my life helping others to believe in themselves and all that they can achieve.”

Career
With nearly 30 years of experience in public education, I've been so lucky to have had the chance to directly make a difference in the lives of students, their amazing teachers, and their dedicated administrators in a variety of ways. Currently, I truly love being able to offer practical, hands-on support to our schools and the families they care for. My path to education began with a chance meeting many years ago when I was picking up my eldest daughter from school. I met another single mother there, and her story opened my eyes to the possibility that someone like me could go back to school and work hard to build the life I dreamed of. That unexpected connection, along with the many inspiring educators and writers I've encountered over these past three decades in public education, constantly reminds me of the power of belief. My greatest hope is that my own journey can encourage others to dream big and to never lose faith in themselves.
